Gröbner bases and convex polytopes

Johan P. Hansen, Niels Lauritzen

Tu 11.15-13.00, Th 14.15-15.00 Aud. D3

This is a course on Gröbner bases and convex polytopes following the monograph "Gröbner Bases and Convex Polytopes", University Lecture Series, Volume 8, American Mathematical Society, 1996 by B. Sturmfels. The first three weeks will be a head on crash course introducing Gröbner bases. Then we will move on to Sturmfels' book. Topics will include universal Gröbner bases, convexity theory, the Gröbner fan, the state polytope, variation of term orders, toric ideals and integer linear programming.

Exercises will be given and participants are expected to wrestle and pin them down.
